Open Source Initiative OSI

This web site is powered with Open Source. The basic idea behind open source is very simple: When programmers can read, redistribute, and modify the source code for a piece of software, the software evolves. People improve it, people adapt it, people fix bugs. And this can happen at a speed that, if one is used to the slow pace of conventional software development, seems astonishing.

Operating platform

Ubuntu "LAMP Server"

The Open Source operating system Linux, initiated by Linus Torvalds in 1991, was the obvious choice.  The most important are these three packages: PHP, MySQL and the Apache Webserver. The Linux distribution of choice is the Unbutu "LAMP" Server install. LAMP in this case stand for (L)inux (A)pache (M)ysql (P)hp which means a preconfigured distribution which covered the basic needs. The Ubuntu Linux distribution, based on Debian GNU/Linux is growing quickly and by many referred to as the next generation Linux distribution. In my own case I found out about it while tracking the history of Vikings around the British Isles. It's was information about Linux related to business at Isle of Man which called my attention. As a true supporter of Linux, I got interested and as in V for Vendetta, one may say - "It's all connected...".

Content management

The contents of the site is maintained using the Joomla Content Management System, which I believe is an opensource package that will become widely used in the near 2-5 year. Used extensions (Jooma Components) are: VirtueMart , LetterMan & JoomlaBoard.

Open source contributions

  • Development, usage, promoting and supporting Open Source Projects, in my case, is a way of life.
  • My own contribution to the Joomla community is the WikiBot , which links Joomla contents to WikiPedia. During my work with the dossier I found myself exploring the contents of WikiPedia a lot and when I created this homepage the WikiBot became a creation of Inevitability.
  • I am also a monthly contributer of Wikipedia.

I created the above image/logo as I was so amazed of the two (Joomla/Linux) in combination. Of course it's free to use wereever you wan't.

One for all - all for one

Helping each others is the Noble path into the inevitable future. If you like my contributions to you and the world, of course I would appreciate your contributions. Click here to get how-to information.
